This page explains each source and how to access them.
Kenai Felony Records Overview
Kenai Felony Case Records Online
The best place to search Kenai felony records is CourtView Public Access, the free statewide system run by the Alaska Court System. Kenai falls in the Third Judicial District, so all local cases appear under that district in CourtView. Search by name, case number, or charge type. No login or payment is needed.
CourtView shows filed felony cases, hearing dates, current case status, and the judge assigned to the matter. Docket entries let you follow the timeline of a case from filing through disposition. Sealed records appear in search results but their content is blocked. Juvenile matters and cases involving protected victims are most often sealed. To access a sealed case, a court motion is required.
When searching for Kenai felony records, try alternate name spellings if you don't find results on the first attempt. Older records may have entry errors that affect how names are indexed in the system.
Kenai Superior and District Court
The Kenai courthouse is at 145 Trading Bay Road, Kenai, AK 99611. The phone number is (907) 283-3110, and the fax is (907) 283-3880. The Superior Court here handles all felony charges, civil matters over $100,000, and domestic relations cases. The District Court handles misdemeanors, civil claims under $100,000, and small claims. Both courts are at the same location.
You can request Kenai felony case records by visiting the courthouse or mailing a written request. Bring a case number to speed the process. Without one, clerks may need extra time and may charge a research fee to locate records manually. The Kenai Courts Directory lists the courthouse address, phone, fax, and department details for the current term.
Copy fees for Alaska courts are set statewide. Plain copies cost $5 for the first page and $2 for each page after that. Certified copies carry a $5 certification fee on top of the copy cost. Mail requests are processed with a check made out to the Alaska Court System. Most mail requests take one to two weeks to process.
Note: If you need records for a case that moved between courts or districts, contact the court clerk first to confirm where the physical file is held before submitting a records request.
Kenai Courts Directory
The Kenai Courts Directory on the Alaska Court System website gives current contact information, phone numbers, and department details for courts serving the Kenai area. Use this directory before sending a mail request to verify you have the correct address and department.
The directory is maintained by the Alaska Court System and is more reliable than general web sources when you need current contact information for Kenai criminal case inquiries.
Kenai Police Department Records
The Kenai Police Department provides law enforcement for the City of Kenai. KPD maintains arrest records, incident reports, and police case files that are separate from the court system. The department is at 107 S Willow Street, Kenai, AK 99611. The main phone is (907) 283-7879, and the fax is (907) 283-4249. Emergency calls go to 911.
KPD offers an online records request form at forms.kenai.city. This is the most efficient way to request police reports, incident reports, and accident reports. Include a case or incident number if you have one. Adding the date of the event and the name of the person involved speeds up the search. KPD records and court records are maintained by different agencies, so searching one source alone may not give you a complete picture.
A police report may exist for an incident where no charges were ever filed in court. And some felony cases moved through court without a KPD report if the arrest was made by the Alaska State Troopers or another agency. For a full picture, check both sources.
Wildwood Correctional Complex
The Wildwood Correctional Complex is a state facility at 10 Chugach Avenue, Kenai, AK 99611, phone (907) 260-7200. It is operated by the Alaska Department of Corrections and holds both sentenced inmates and pretrial detainees. More information is available at doc.alaska.gov/institutions/wildwood.
To check whether someone is currently held at Wildwood or any other Alaska facility, use VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday). VINE is available at VINELink or by calling 1-800-247-9763. It is free to use, runs 24 hours a day, and covers all Alaska Department of Corrections locations. VINE can also send alerts when an inmate's custody status changes.
Alaska Background Checks
The Alaska Department of Public Safety manages the state's background check program. For Kenai residents, requests can be submitted through the Alaska DPS background check portal online or by mail. Name-based checks cost $20. Fingerprint-based checks cost $35 and search both Alaska and federal criminal databases. Fingerprint checks are more thorough and are required for some professional licenses.
An online self-service request is available if you need a copy of your own criminal history. This can be useful before a court hearing or licensing application where disclosure is required. Under AS 12.62, felony records are generally public and most remain accessible permanently. Some records may be set aside under limited conditions, but full sealing of adult felony convictions is rare.
Alaska Sex Offender Registry
The Alaska Sex Offender Registry is a free public database that lists people convicted of qualifying sex offenses, including those who live or work in Kenai. You can search by name or geographic area. The registry shows current addresses, offense details, and registration status. It is maintained under AS 12.63.010 and updated regularly.
The registry covers only sex offense convictions. For other felony types such as drug charges, assault, or robbery, use CourtView and KPD records to find what you need.
Alaska Felony Classes
Under AS 11.81, Alaska organizes felonies into three classes. Class A carries the highest penalties at up to 20 years in prison and fines up to $500,000. Class B carries up to 10 years and fines up to $250,000. Class C carries up to 5 years and fines up to $125,000. Unclassified felonies like murder have separate sentencing rules set by their own statutes.
When you search Kenai felony records in CourtView, each case typically shows the charge class. Charges can be amended during the case, so the charge at conviction may differ from the original filing. The CourtView record reflects both the original charge and the final outcome.
- Class A Felony: up to 20 years, up to $500,000 fine
- Class B Felony: up to 10 years, up to $250,000 fine
- Class C Felony: up to 5 years, up to $125,000 fine
- Unclassified Felony: sentence set by specific statute
Alaska Public Records Access
AS 40.25.110-120 is Alaska's public records law. It gives residents and others the right to access most government documents, including court filings and police reports. Agencies can deny access to sealed records, active investigation files, or records that fall under a statutory exemption. But the default in Alaska is that records are open to the public.
If you need help with forms or procedures, the Alaska Court System Self Help Center provides free guidance. Court forms are available at courts.alaska.gov/forms. The Self Help Center does not give legal advice but can explain how to request records and what to expect from the process.
